Two Day Offshore Adventure Trip!

Board the Southern Swan and head off for a sailing adventure on the high-seas! Our 1850’s style, 1922 built tall ship, is sailing out of the harbour and voyaging with a few lucky paying crew, who are keen to discover a real ocean sailing experience.

This experience is NOT:

• A typical sail around the harbour
• A luxury 5 star pampered cruise
• Like any other Sydney cruise to be had

 

This experience IS:

• An authentic, thrilling, hands on adventure
• Your chance to brave the wind and waves
• A taste of life on the ship, like the sailors used to live
• An opportunity to sleep overnight on the ship
• An opportunity to feel what it was like crossing the oceans in the 1850’s
• An unlimited adventure: learn and be involved as much as you like!

This experience is for the more adventurous. Being at sea is a world away from cruising the calm harbour waters and although the ship is 200 tons, you will feel the powerful ocean swell under her keel as we sail the Tasman Sea.

Come see what life on a tall ship was like and have a real experience. Sailing offshore with a clear horizon, stories will be told and this is where stories are made! Our cook will provide all your meals while you spend time actually sailing the ship, being part of the crew and taking in the wonder of nature around you.

Do I need to be a sailor?
No sailing experience is required to enjoy this sailing trip. The ship's professional crew are there to guide you and assist you at all times. All you need is an adventurous spirit, the desire to really play a part in a sailing adventure and be eager to experience a different world.

This offshore adventure trip is an experience of a lifetime! Anyone can join us to enjoy a real sailing experience, where you are encouraged to be as involved and hands on as you like. This is your opportunity to try sailing this historic tall ship. Learn to climb aloft, take a trick at the wheel, stand a night watch, chat with the Captain and crew, or just sit back and enjoy it as it all happens around you.

 

What is included?
The package includes your bunk and all meals, with drinks available for purchase. There are different bunk areas, including cabins, allowing us to accommodate couples. Bunks will be allocated once we have the whole crew booked. For those who want the full experience, mess duties can be rostered. So if you want the chance to peel a spud or would rather indulge in a night cap or hot toddy after your night watch, you will enjoy this authentic sailing experience. Our Captain and crew will show you everything you want to know about sailing a square rigger and take you on the adventure of a lifetime.

We reserve the right to stop serving alcohol to anyone who is behaving in a way that presents a danger to themselves, other passengers, our crew or the ship.

Where do we go?
Take to the open ocean and discover how it feels to spend the night under the stars, on the Tasman Sea. Our destination will be where the wind and waves take us.
We hope to be at sea, standing night watches, for at least one of the nights you are onboard, weather permitting. Experience the thrill of an ocean adventure, sailing with the breeze and current with a tall ship and star to guide you by.

What to bring?
You’ll need to bring your own sheet, pillow, sleeping bag, toiletries and towel.
At sea you experience the elements, the sun, wind, spray and cooler temperatures. We recommend bringing warm and protective clothing i.e. thermals and wet weather gear.

When are we going to sea?
We will only do 3 trips this year with a limited number of voyage crew on each:

• From Tue 23rd August at 5:30pm to Thur 25th August at 3pm
• From Fri 26th August at 5:30pm to Sun 28th Aug at 3pm.
• From the Mon 29th August 2011 to at 5.30pm to Wed 31st Aug2011 at 3pm

Arrival and departures will be from White Bay, Rozelle, Sydney

Where do we sleep?
This is your opportunity to enjoy 2 nights aboard our historic 1920’s ship. Relax on the ship at night and fall asleep cradled by the open ocean or at anchor in a beautiful sheltered bay. Bunks will be allocated on a first come/booked, best dressed system with due regard to age, physical state and gender. Some will be in cabins and some in the main ‘hold’ area.

Is there a shower onboard?
There will be an opportunity to have a wash down but with limited water you won’t be solving the world problems whilst the shower runs. We’ll save that to your night watch on deck, with only the stars above and the sky as the only limit to your imagination

Can anyone join the trip?
Yes, as long as they are fit and healthy! You will need to fill out a medical questionnaire and we may require a doctors certificate if there are any medical issues outstanding. Despite this requirement, we are open to youth of all ages and
welcome you to step into a forgotten world and experience the trip of your life!
